Sal Petrosino understands the importance of Los Angeles to the film and animation industries, which is why he takes a group of students out to LA every year to let them interact personally with leading SVA alum. The goal is to demystify the industry, and put a face on their futures.
Sal Petrosino (Director of Operations):
Four years ago our EVP, Anthony Rhodes, asked me to put together a program in LA with a goal to have our students meet top-shelf film and animation artists who would share not only their creative process, but their own personal journeys. For so many students, their path to the professional world can seem far off in the distance and maybe not realistic. Meeting these artists lets them know that what they aspire to is possible if they discovered their talent and work harder than anyone else. So many of the students who share in this experience come away inspired by these artists, (many of them SVA Alumni who continue to be part of a community that expands beyond the walls of the school) and also leave with more clarity what it takes for them to achieve their goals.
Elizabeth Sarta (Screenwriter):
I left New York a student with dreams, and I returned a professional with aspirations. The trip helped me truly realize that my professional career starts now.
This trip was not only a highlight of my time at SVA, but it will forever be a life-shaping journey that I will hold close to me throughout my entire lifetime.
I feel reinvigorated and utterly inspired to join forces with the successful alumni we met with during our time in LA. I cannot wait to graduate and start my career. I am so grateful for everything SVA has taught me, prepared me for, and shared with me during my time here as a student, an RA, an intern, and now, a member of the SVA in LA family!
